Description

Generic Name: moxifloxacin hydrochloride

Drug Class: fluoroquinolone antibiotic

Avelox Indications

Avelox is an oral prescription drug to treat community-acquired pneumonia, skin and skin structure infections, complicated intra-abdominal infections, acute bacterial sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and plague. This is prescribed to patients 18 years of age and above.

This medication should only be used to prevent and treat infections that are proven to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

Avelox Dosage Forms

This is available in Avelox (moxifloxacin) 400 mg tablets.

Avelox Mechanism of Action

It works by suppressing topoisomerase II or DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are required for DNA replication, transcription, repair, and recombination of bacteria. Additionally, topoisomerase IV plays a great role in the partitioning of chromosomal DNA in bacterial cell division. These actions manage bacterial infections by inhibiting the growth of bacteria.

How to Take Avelox

Before you start taking Avelox, it is necessary to read the information leaflet or medication guide given by a healthcare professional. Ensure you understood the uses and directions before you take any medication. If you need any further advice, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
