Description

Azopt Uses

Azopt (generic name: brinzolamide) is an eye medication used as a treatment for elevated intraocular pressure or IOP among people with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. By decreasing the high pressure inside the eye, permanent complications, such as blindness, can be prevented.

This is available in Azopt 10 mg/mL brinzolamide solution.

Mechanism of Action

This sterile topical ophthalmic drop is responsible for inhibiting carbonic anhydrase II. CAII is an enzyme that can be found in different tissues in the body, like the eyes. Aqueous humor secretion is lessened by inhibiting this enzyme in the ciliary processes, and elevated pressure inside the eyes is reduced.

How to Use Azopt Eyedrops

Before you use this eye drop, you must read the patient information leaflet that comes with this product. Do not use this eyedrop unless you have fully understood all the information and how to use this eyedrop.

Use Azopt exactly as prescribed. This is usually used three times daily or as directed by your doctor. Do not increase/decrease your Azopt dosage. If you are prescribed other eye drugs, make sure that there are at least 5 minutes of intervals and note that eye drops should be applied before eye ointments. If you have a contact lens on, remove it before administering this eyedrop and put it back on after fifteen minutes.

Step-by-Step Medication Guide:

  1. Wash your hands properly before applying any eye product to avoid infection or contamination.
  2. In a comfortable position, tilt your head back slightly and gently pull the lower eyelid to make a pouch.
  3. Place the tip of the bottle above the eye.
  4. Close the eye slowly and wait for 1 to 2 minutes.
  5. With a clean tissue, wipe the excess eye drop from the eye.
  6. Recap the product and store it properly.
  7. Once you are finished, wash your hands again.
