Indications
Janumet XR is an oral prescription drug used to improve glycemic control among adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus when treatment with sitagliptin and metformin is necessary. This is prescribed together with proper diet and exercise.
Janumet XR is not indicated for type 1 diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis. It has not been investigated in patients who have had pancreatitis in the past.

Janumet XR Mechanism of Action
This is a combination product of a DPP-4 inhibitor and a biguanide. It slows the inactivation of incretin hormones for starters. By prolonging and increasing the levels of active incretin hormones, insulin release is increased, and glucagon levels in the circulation are decreased in a glucose-dependent manner. Secondly, it reduces the production of hepatic glucose, reduces gastrointestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity through increased peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
