Rexulti Warnings
Do not take Rexulti if you have a known allergy to brexpiprazole or any inactive ingredients it may contain. Watch for any signs of serious allergic reactions, such as trouble breathing, swelling of the face and neck, severe dizziness, swollen lymph nodes, and itching/hives. If this occurs, stop taking this oral medication and seek emergency medical help immediately.
This medication may be contraindicated for people with a history of dementia-related psychosis, diabetes, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, kidney problems, liver problems, heart problems, low white blood cell count, sleep apnea, trouble swallowing stroke, and seizures. Because there may be drug interactions, you should let your doctor know about all prescription and non-prescription medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking.
Dizziness, drowsiness, and lightheadedness are among the side effects of this antipsychotic. You should practice safety caution when doing tasks that require alertness, especially driving. Further, Rexulti and alcohol can interact and cause CNS depression. It can cause sedation and psychomotor impairments. Avoid drinking alcohol while on this treatment.
Patients taking this oral drug for major depressive disorder should be monitored for suicidal ideations. Call your local suicide hotline once you observe sudden changes in behavior, altered sleeping patterns, social withdrawal, giving away important belongings, and lack of interest in pleasurable activities.
Brexpiprazole can decrease sweating which could increase the risk of heatstroke. If the weather is humid/hot, you should avoid overheating by staying in a cool place, wearing light clothes, and staying hydrated.
Pregnant moms must avoid this oral drug as it is known to cause harm to unborn babies. For breastfeeding moms, it is unknown if this drug can pass into breast milk. The risks should be discussed with the physician prior to taking this medication.
