Description

What is Travatan Z?

Travatan Z (generic name: travoprost) is a prescription eye medication prescribed to lessen elevated intraocular pressure or IOP among patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. By the high pressure in the eye, complications like blindness can be prevented.

Travatan Z Eyedrop is classified as a prostaglandin analog. This is available in Travatan Z 0.004 percent or 0.04 mg/mL ophthalmic solution in 3mL or 5mL bottle size.

How does Travatan Z work?

The exact mechanism of these eyedrops is unknown. However, this selective FP prostanoid receptor is thought to work by increasing the outflow of aqueous humor via the trabecular meshwork to uveoscleral pathways in order to decrease intraocular pressure.

How to use Travatan Z Eyedrops

You must read the drug information guide and administer the eyedrops precisely as prescribed. If you have concerns, you may ask your doctor or pharmacist. Use this eye solution once daily in the evening. To avoid skipping medications, make a dosage regimen. Do not decrease/decrease your dosage, and do not use it more frequently than intended as it will not improve your condition.

To administer this eyedrop, first, you must wash your hands properly to avoid infection and contamination. Tilt the head back a little and pull down the lower eyelid gently to form a pouch. Hold the dropper above the affected eye but be careful not to poke your eye with the tip of the dropper. Lookup & squeeze the bottle to release a drop into the lower eyelid. Then, look down and close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Press the inner corner to prevent the solution from draining. Avoid squinting or rubbing your eye. Once done, replace the dropper cap and close it tightly.

Travatan Z Side Effects

The common side effects of this prescription drug are mild eye discomfort, temporary blurred vision, eye itching, dry eyes, eyelid crusting, tearing, darkening of the eyelid, thickening of the eyelash, and temporary sensitivity to light. You should also report severe adverse effects, such as iris discoloration, eye pain, eye swelling, and vision changes. Call your doctor immediately if any of these occur.

Precautions / Contraindications

These eyedrops may temporarily blur your vision. Avoid alcoholic drinks or other beverages with similar substances that could worsen this adverse reaction. You should also observe caution when doing tasks that need a clear vision, especially driving.

Travatan Z should not be used if you have a known allergy to travoprost, bimatoprost, latanoprost, benzalkonium chloride, or any inactive ingredients the solution contains. Signs of serious allergic reactions are itchiness, swelling of the face, rashes, swollen lymph nodes, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing. If this happens, call your medical emergency hotline immediately.

Travatan Z is also contraindicated for people with a history of aphakia or lens extraction, uveitis, iritis, and macular edema. Because of possible drug interactions, you should also discuss all prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, supplements, and herbal products you are using.
